Luxury upcycling, which transforms leather coming from food industry waste and old game balls into designer bags and backpacks. "The result? A well made collection of Made In Italy accessories that does good ». As stated by Elisabetta Viola, founder and designer of the brand, in the following interview.

What is fashion for you?

Fashion for me is the luxury of being able to choose.

When and why did you start the brand?

The brand was founded at the end of 2018. The opportunity to convey the important message of “deluxe upcycling” has become my mission. Through my creations I wanted to state that reuse is beautiful, it has a taste of "the past" but with a vision towards the future.

Three words to define your work?

Contemporaneity, circularity and craftsmanship.

How would you describe the SS 2022 collection you will present at WSM?

The collection of bags and backpacks is produced in the cradle of Italian know-how, the Riviera del Brenta, and tells stories of sports, ball passes, players, friendship, victories and goals achieved. A mix & match between high quality leather and materials recovered from sports clubs, such as footballs and uniforms.

How is the brand sustainable?

The brand embraces the concept of circular economy and enhances Italian know-how: the whole production takes place in Veneto, supporting artisans and their work. Raw materials suppliers are located between the Triveneto and Tuscany, this is how BGBL supports the local economy. Finally, the leather that the brand uses represents waste from the food industry, while the used balls are recovered from sports clubs, sanitized and hand cut. For every ball used, BGBL supplies a new ball to support boys and girls during training and at the same time to raise awareness around the concept of upcycling.
