ETICO SARTORIA MARCHIGIANA SS22

Marta and Valentina are two girls passionate about the recovery of ancient crafts, such as tailoring and natural dyeing. Their brand, ètico - Sartoria Marchigiana, was born from asking themselves how they could possibly reduce the environmental impact caused by clothing production.

Why this name?

«We wanted a strong name that could say loud and clear that our product is ethically made. Sartoria Marchigiana then derives from the close link to the territory. We live in the countryside of Marche(Italy),on the slopes of the Sibillini Mountains, in a small village called Ripe San Ginesio. We work surrounded by green and within a small community, at a sustainable pace”.

Why sustainability?

Having experience in the fashion industry and getting to know the damage caused by fast fashion, not only environmental but human, we could only strongly choose to create a responsible brand ".

What other values does your brand embrace?

«Another important aspect is the desire to bring back the idea of local shops, in fact, in our atelier you can buy garments, request a tailor made one,  see how we dye and touch the materials used. We also do courses in Ecoprint, Natural Dyeing and Tailoring, and we do all this because we believe in the importance of having human relationships with customers and people, again ».

Can you tell us the process for your prints?

"Our job is to go for a walk in the woods, collect the leaves of the plants we know and that can be used for printing, place them on the fabric which is then rolled around a wooden support and steamed. Et voila, after a few days we have the imprint of the leaves printed on the fabric. The lady who first experimented with this technique is called India Flint and she has created a very fascinating world ».

How does your brand stand out strongly?

"In the uniqueness of the individual items. The shades of natural colors and botanical prints do not allow for identical replicas, it is nature that decides, alchemy ".

Tell us about your latest collection.

«Our second production is called ROOTS. We were born and raised in a beautiful area but like all teenagers we used to dream about the city. We moved but decided to come come back: in our small villages you can breathe an air of beauty, of community, of real relationships, of children playing hide and seek in the alleys, of elderly people who always cheers you with a "good morning" and they tell about their past, even as artisans. There is also a parallelism with the roots of plants, on which their livelihood depends. Our work and our garments must not harm the environment, they must not pollute our roots ".

Make a wish for yourself and one for the future of the Italian fashion system.

“Our desire is for a return to a more human pace and approach. In Italy there are many small artisan businesses like ours, which speak of quality and attention to the customer ".
