SCHOOL OF WRÅD

"Sustainability: there's lots of talk about this along with growing confusion. Now, more than ever, the truth about "fashion and sustainability" is artificially controlled by businesses focused solely on profit, to the detriment of millions of people and the environment - clarity and transparency is needed! However, education and information about this issue which is so vital for life on our planet has become a business, instead of an inclusive service that is accessible to all - this is a dangerous turn of events" stated Matteo Ward (CEO and co-founder of WRÅD).

Awareness of this fact has led WRÅD to launch SOW - SCHOOL OF WRÅD, the first independent and digital platform dedicated entirely to the culture of sustainability. It's a community with a challenging and urgent goal, given the critical situation today: to encourage the growth of a new form of sustainable activism in young people by circulating the truth about the fashion world and sustainability in a clear and simple way. The idea is to inspire and mobilise an increasing number of people with ways to counteract methods and practices of the fashion system which are no longer sustainable.

The courses and content, comprising videos and texts, of the three modules Better Design, Better Communication and Better Management are the result of a decade-long experience in the world of sustainability, training and consultancy by Matteo Ward (CEO and co-founder of WRÅD) and the WRÅD team, supported by a network of experts and professionals in the field who have assisted in the development of WRÅD since day one.

The concept of responsibility in the fashion world is presented and tackled systematically, with a focus on design, communication and management. The key pillars of the school - independence, accessibility and inclusion - are a natural response to the need to guarantee integrity of content in the courses and accessibility worldwide in terms of pricing, language (the courses are offered not only in English, with the project including their translation into various other languages) and business model: each course sold also offers School of WRÅD participants the chance to sponsor free distribution of education packs and structures for youngsters who are denied information on this topic in Vietnam, Bangladesh, India and Iran (thanks to a partnership with Fashion Revolution Iran). The project increases and widens the social impact of WRÅD Education which (again in collaboration with Fashion Revolution) has managed to distribute its educational projects free of charge since 2015 to more than 11,000 Italian secondary school and university students in 2018 and 2019, setting up partnerships with 16 universities and offering workshops in 102 countries worldwide.

The platform will also be opened up to third parties, offering the opportunity to professionals, innovators and creative talents to present and promote their own courses, on condition they align with the mission of School of WRÅD and are linked to the three macro themes: sustainable design, responsible communication and management of sustainable development.

For the launch of the School of WRÅD – SOW project, a crowdfunding campaign has been launched on the Indiegogo platform, offering the general public the chance to participate in the project construction and become founders of the school. The fundraising campaign, which calls on everyone for help and that will finish at the end of the year, is necessary to support WRÅD in the final production stage of the digital platform and in the translation of content into several local languages such as Hindi and Farsi, as breaking down linguistic barriers is an essential step in making the project even more inclusive.
